Building Information Modeling

General information

What is BIM?

Building Information Modelling (BIM) is a planning method in the construction industry. The method is based on digital models that contain all relevant project and product specific data. These models can then be exchanged digitally among all participants - and without any loss of data. Additional information, such as costs or deadlines, can also be stored in the 3D models.

Opportunities with BIM

Thanks to the BIM method, the entire project processes can be improved. On the one hand, the mutual communication of all persons involved in the construction becomes more transparent. This improves both planning reliability and cost efficiency. On the other hand, process changes can be recognised at an early stage and then taken into account in all subsequent steps.

BIM is understood as a holistic approach in construction. This approach is also playing an increasingly important role in the context of sustainable construction. Because the BIM method provides all relevant information over the entire life cycle of a building. Therefore, the building is considered as a digital model over many years. This includes technical consultation, operation and demolition.

All products, including detailed information, can be uploaded to the planning software via a CAD interface. Thanks to automatic updates, this saves a lot more time. In addition, planners save valuable time by being able to implement bills of quantities and building specifications more quickly, and intelligent filters and search functions simplify the planning process.

BIM at VEKA

As a system provider, we want to support our customers as well as possible with information and product data. This also applies to the topic of BIM.

For this reason, we provide general and industry relevant information regarding the development of the digital planning method and are happy to exchange questions and suggestions.

As a manufacturer of building products, we not only offer support in the BIM process, but also make our product data available in a BIM compatible manner. This means that VEKA profile systems can be processed quickly and easily in BIM software.

Our solutions

It is currently already possible to create BIM compatible and standardised IFC files in WinDoPlan, our planning tool for windows and doors. Thereby, the advantages of WinDoPlan and BIM are linked effectively and, for example, the individual U-value is transferred directly to the BIM software.

However, we go one step further with our plug-in solutions. For example, it is possible to integrate the configurator of WinDoPlans directly into Revit and ArchiCAD, making import processes unnecessary. Windows from saved projects can also be easily and quickly inserted into the building model without any loss of information. Post-processing, e.g. to change the size or colour of the window, is also possible. With the help of the plug-in solutions, design and functionality are linked in an ideal way, as the calculations of WinDoPlan regarding statics, U-value and sound can be accessed and these data are then automatically transferred to the BIM model.
