VEKA works with eco-friendly strategies from production through to the recycling of discarded synthetic windows. For it is particularly complex industrial production processes that involve the need - but also the great opportunity to minimise damage to the environment throughout the work process.
In this context, PVC provides decisive advantages beginning with environmentally friendly production through to the most advanced manufacturing methods and energy saving processing. Closed cycles help reduce the consumption of energy and water. Rainwater falling down on the company's undeveloped spaces, is collected in a biotope, cleaned from tyre abrasion and oil mud in a sewage treatment plant and supplied to the internal water cycle.
In addition, VEKA AG is leading the way in the industry with regard to the recycling of dismantled, old windows and doors: in 1993 the VEKA subsidiary
VEKA Umwelttechnik put into operation Europe's most advanced plant for the recycling of complete plastic windows in the Thuringian town of Behringen. Pure PVC is retrieved in a fully automatic process which can be reused in the production of new profiles without affecting their quality. Old PVC construction elements are therefore themselves valuable raw materials - and should not end up in a waste disposal plant.
VEKA AG is a stockholder of
Rewindo GmbH which was incorporated in June 2002. It is the aim of that company to co-ordinate, document and control the implementation of the voluntary commitment of the European PVC industry in the recycling of old PVC windows and production waste from the manufacture of PVC windows, window profiles or cognate products.
